When former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson showcased a Sixties-style bouffant recently, her hairstyle wasn’t quite as glamorous as she’d hoped.
Thanks to ill-fitting extensions, the 47-year-old had visible bonds showing and the fake locks did not blend seamlessly with her own tresses.
She’s not the first celebrity to suffer from a barnet malfunction thanks to hair extensions. From Paris Hilton to Britney Spears, there are a plenty of examples of how the popular beauty product has left the hair of celebrities looking lacklustre rather than luscious.
Even stylish celebrities like Beyoncé and Victoria Beckham have some extension nightmares they would rather forget.
But now online hair and beauty retailer Hairtrade.com has compiled a list of the ten worst offenders to show people how to avoid a bad hair day.
A spokesperson for the brand said: ‘We’ve all got photos that we look back on and say, “what was I thinking?” So it’s reassuring to know that no matter how perfect these celebs seem, they’ve had their share of hair care faux pas too.
‘Hair extensions may seem like a quick fix to get the hair you want but unless they are applied with care it can lead to some sticky situations and embarrassing photos. Everyone wants long, thick, luscious hair and extensions are a great way of achieving this, you just need to take time and find the right ones for you.’
Here’s the ten worst celebrity hair extension disasters…
1. Britney Spears
Recently Britney has been looking great in preparation for her Piece of Me tour in Las Vegas but no one can forget those dodgy hair extensions of the mid 2000s.
Ms Spears is definitely not that innocent of wearing bad hair extensions. Nothing can beat the nest of tendrils and visible scalp nightmares she’s had in the past.
Britney’s ‘nest of tendrils’ seen while shopping in California in 2010 has to be the worst extensions disaster
If you are considering getting hair extensions, here’s the prime example of what not to do.
The experts at Kapello Hair extensions say Britney’s hair has got this way because she hasn’t taken proper care of it.
National account manager Simon, who’s worked with hair extensions for 25 years, says: ‘It is vital that you take care of your hair extensions and treat them properly, you wouldn’t put a cashmere sweater in the washing machine, or buy a new car and never have it serviced.
‘Britney should never have let her extensions get in this condition.’

2. Lindsay Lohan
The actress’ dodgy two-toned fiasco is the best advertisement for the importance of colour-matching your hair extensions to blend with your natural colour.
Kapello’s Simon explains: ‘It is vital to have a consultation with your extensions technician. Lilo’s extensions certainly do show the importance of closely colour-matching your hair.
‘However the match does not have to be 100 per cent exact. A shade either side of your natural colour can easily blend, especially if you curl your locks.’
